Juggernaut offers the complete range of climbing wall design, build and maintenance services:
WALL DESIGN We design climbing structures that are functional, challenging and entertaining for all levels of ability. Juggernaut walls are custom designed, ensuring that our clients receives a unique product tailored to their specific needs. We offer designs ranging from basic vertical walls to high overhang multi-featured structures. We work closely with our clients to assess potential risks at the proposed location of the wall and to work toward a package that will best suit your budget and requirements. Design begins by constructing a 3D computer or physical scale model based on the dimensions of your site and any specific requirements you may have. Once you approve the model, we produce detailed plans and engineering documentation ready for obtaining permits and planning construction. CONSTRUCTION All Juggernaut climbing walls meet or exceed CWIG (Climbing Wall Industry Group) standards and local building codes. We have developed a unique construction process that allows for framing of very complex walls using nominal lumber. Our walls can be framed with structural steel. In most cases, our lumber framing process is the most economical allowing a more interesting and functional wall without limiting the design complexity. Our timber frame construction will usually meet non-combustible building codes because the JuggerStone texture creates a cementitious barrier over the entire project. Our walls are surfaced with interlocking OSB panels. OSB is free of the voids that are commonly found in today's plywood sheathing - such voids can create problems with sinking and/ or spinning of the T-nuts (climbing hold anchors). We apply a base coat that acts as both a sealer for the OSB and as a bonding surface for our Jugger Stone wall texture (see below). After texturing, we install at least two T-nuts per square foot in a random pattern for maximum versatility in route setting and hold placement. Our T-nuts are installed with three screws . This provides a more secure, anti-rotational connection than the standard pound-in alternative. They also have extra-long barrels to work with the thickness of our JuggerStone texture for ease of route setting. Access panels are integrated into the wall surface for maintenance, such as replacement of T-nuts that may become cross- threaded during route setting and periodic inspection of the structure. TRAVERSE WALLS We offer unique traverse (bouldering) walls that feature a façade that tapers up from the top of the climbing surface and back to the existing wall. This design is particularly applicable to school gymnasiums, and serves two main purposes:
JUGGERSTONE WALL TEXTURES JuggerStone provides a surface that is not possible with conventional climbing wall texture paints. Our texture process creates a surface that readily accepts bolt-on climbing holds yet offers the benefits and aesthetic appeal of climbing on real rock. Our polymer concrete blend is applied to the wall then stamped with molds taken from real rock. During the texturing process, we sculpt the inside corners and outside aspects (“arêtes”) of the wall, creating subtle edges and features that can be used as intermediate holds. A variety of pigments are used to emulate mineral deposits and lichens. JuggerStone is incredibly durable. We have been applying this product for nearly a decade and have had very positive feedback, with no reports of surface wear. Our texture is offered in the following styles:
We also offer very realistic molded and sculpted rock features, such as our Blairmore Lion's Playground Boulder. We can provide a combination of the above textures on large projects such as commercial climbing gyms, and can vary the degree of additional features and holds to your taste and budget. All textures are relatively non-abrasive, but offer good friction for intermediate footwork and help prevent rotation of climbing holds. JuggerStone is available in a variety of earthtone colors. We prefer to keep it real, but custom colors can be created to suit your needs. STAFF TRAINING W e always recommend and facilitate staff training and wall operation packages through our associated ACMG (Association of Canadian Mountain Guides) partners. TURNKEY PACKAGES AND EQUIPMENT We offer complete packages including training and purchasing of hardware and softgoods, holds and safety flooring. We will create a package that best suits your needs and level of experience and leave you ready to operate and enjoy your own climbing facility.
